Announcing the 2020 Club Championship

Saturday 12 September, 2020

We are pleased to announce that our 2020 Club Championship will take place online!

The event will be run by Adam Raoof on the Tornelo platform. Please click here to enter.

Unfortunately COVID-19 has prevented us from holding an over-the-board championship this year, but we are aiming for something as close as possible in spirit!

The club championship is a six-round Swiss tournament for club members. Because of the pandemic, the event is a little later in the year than normal, and will span two membership years. Therefore, the event will be open to anyone who is a paying Hendon member for either the 2019-20 or 2020-21 seasons.

The event will be a single tournament, but participants will be competing for two trophies: the open Club Champion title and the Under-130 title. The name(s) of the winner(s) will be engraved on the trophies; results will NOT be sent for grading.

The details of the event are as follows:

  • Dates: September 24th, October 1st, 15th, 22nd, 29th and November 5th
  • Start times: The rounds will start at 7:30pm; any player not having an opponent by 8pm will be re-paired.
  • Time controls: Each player will have one hour each, plus 10 seconds per move to complete the game.
  • Byes: A player may request up to TWO half-point byes with at least 24 hours notice. A bye can be in any round. However, byes in round 6 have to be agreed with the organiser before the start of the tournament, and cannot be rescinded.
  • Mobiles/recording: Treat all games as you would over-the-board chess.
  • Tie-break: In the event of a tie for first place, the sum of opponents’ scores will determine the winner. If that doesn’t break the tie, the honours will be shared.

If you have any questions, please email the organiser Adam.

We look forward to seeing you in the Championship! You can find a list of stories about this tournament here.
