Jackals promoted to Division 2!

Thursday 14 April, 2011

Although their final match of the season ended in a loss at Harrow 2, our 3rd team end their first ever season as runners-up in Division 3, and so gain one of the 2 promotion spots. Congratulations to all the Hendon Jackals including captain Kishan Pattni! Our congratulations also to Albany, who dominated the division to become Division 3 champions.

Match report by Kishan Pattni

Our final match of the season ended with a loss. Although it was a little disappointing to both lose and have a player default for the first time in the season, there were some fun games played. The result of today was already academic as we had secured promotion following Harrow’s previous loss.

First to finish was Petr, blundering and losing very quickly! Graeme lost shortly after, with his opponent having a convincing attack. Despite being heavily up on material, I finally paid the price of having an exposed king and lost too! This meant we were 4-0 down in just 75 minutes (including the defaulted game). Faye delivered us consolation and perhaps some relief to me (we lost 8-0 last season away to Harrow). She drew her game so history did not repeat itself. Ray managed to pull of a win in what looked like a drawn position. Salvatore also managed to hold onto his advantage and win. Debutant Vikram was last to finish, losing in what seemed a drawn game.

So we finish the season with 6 wins, a draw and 3 defeats, winning all of our home matches and finishing 2nd in the league. Congratulations to all who played for the Hendon Jackals this season. A special thanks to Michael Bennett and Adam Raoof in assisting me along the way and Salvatore Pepe for being highly reliable in providing transportation. It has been great fun being part of the team and seeing us get promoted. I look forward to next season. Thanks once again to all who played!
