The first round of the Club Championship took place on Thursday, with 28 of the 36 entrants in action!
As with any Swiss tournament, this first round saw some quite unbalanced pairings, and 12 of the 14 games were decisive.
The games largely went according to rating, though a few players got results against higher-rated opponents: Djad Ben-Eshak and Marcus Gordon achieved draws, and Nick Goulbourne won. (Unrated player Andreas Bohnacker also won, though his blitz rating of 1858 suggests he is no beginner!)
