Match report by Michael Bennett

The Jaguars started their 2014-2015 season inauspiciously with a 5.5-2.5 loss to Kings Head 2. Despite our best efforts we were unable to find replacements for two late cancellations, and so were forced to default the bottom two boards.

The remainder of the match was hard-fought. In order of finishing:

  • Dan sacrificed a piece, and then took advantage of his opponent’s time trouble to seal victory. (1-2)
  • Duncan put up a great fight before eventually going down to the KH captain. (1-3)
  • After a reasonable start, I chose an incorrect defensive plan as the time-control approached. (1-4)
  • Gayan wove his way through some complications and then showed great technique to dispatch his dangerous opponent in the endgame. Welcome back Gayan! (2-4)
  • Acting captain Anthony was doing well, but eventually his opponent turned the tables (2-5)
  • Jonathan played a dangerous gambit against the French and was always a bit better, but his opponent just managed to hold the draw (2.5-5.5)
