Last night the Lions overcame a challenge from visitors Muswell Hill, coming out 5.5.-2.5 winners.

Despite large grade differences, the visitors’ hastily-recruited team put up a great fight in a tough match:

A smooth win from GM Tamás Fodor on his Hendon debut offset an uncharacteristic early defeat for Cristian (1-1).
The match seemed level for a long time after that, but then attacking wins from Adam and Lorin took us to 3-1, and Duncan’s opponent went wrong under time pressure (4-1).
Victory was sealed when Tomer Eden neatly converted an opposite-coloured bishops ending and Jonathan Hawkins agreed a draw on top board (5.5-1.5).
Last to finish was Board 7, where Dan’s opponent played really well to finish the match with the visitors’ second win.

This victory means the Lions close the gap on the Tigers at the top of the Division 1 table, with 3 matches in hand.
