The Hendon Tigers started the season brightly, with a 6-2 win away at Harrow. Our game points were provided by John Richardson (a smooth win against IM Colin Crouch), Cristian Mures, Tomer Eden, Tim Rogers and Adam Raoof plus draws from Dan Ellis and Rob Willmoth. A great all-round team performance!

Report by Michael Bennett

The Hendon Tigers started the season brightly tonight, with a 6-2 win away to Harrow.

Prospects did not look so good early on, with several Hendon players on the back foot, with material and/or positional deficits.

However, the team proceeded to turn things around as Dan improved his position until a draw was agreed, and Tim converted from a piece up to level the match, offsetting a rare loss from Simon, who had overestimated his position. (1.5-1.5)

Adam then converted a better ending, and Cristian’s move-bound opponent threw in the towel, even though there was not yet a clear finish on the board. (3.5-1.5)

Rob was still in trouble, but managed to escape with a perpetual, and Tomer won on time in the quickplay finish, from what seemed to be an equal position. Finally John wrapped things up on board 1, having gradually outplayed IM Colin Crouch in a smooth game! (6-2)

Congrats to the whole team and captain Adam Raoof on a great start to the season!
