Match report by Michael Bennett

The Lions consolidated their position at the top of Division 1 of the Middlesex League last night, with a comprehensive 7-1 victory over visitors Athenaeum.

Hendon took an early lead when John Richardson’s opponent blundered under pressure in the early middlegame. This set the tone for the evening, as Simon Warman neatly won a piece soon afterwards, Cristian picked up 2 extra pawns in a superior endgame, and Gary won a piece. Both Lorin and Joseph seemed to be under pressure but held the draw comfortably, following which Tomer and Rob converted their winning positions in style to seal the victory.

Next up is a very tough fixture away to Hackney!
