Mures wins 1st HCC Open Rapid

Thursday 19 November, 2009

The 1st HCC Open Rapid Tournament was won outright by Hendon’s resident rapidplay expert Cristian Mures, with 5½ points from the 6 rounds. The runners-up were David Iwi and co-favourite Meri Grigoryan.

All the players had a great time, and were heavily in favour of repeating the experiment in the new year. I (Adam) thought that they would prefer two consecutive Thursdays, but what with league matches and blitz events every week at the club they are few and far between! However all who were asked said they would still play, as long as they got three rated games in an evening, so watch the club event diary closely.

The traditional ‘Hendon Fiver’ went to David Iwi for his superb performance. All the games will be graded by the English Chess Federation for the next list.
