2 March 2010: Lions win away at Ealing
In an exciting match which could quite easily have gone the other way, our 1st team eventually came out 5½-2½ victors against last season’s champions Ealing.
more »25 February 2010: Tigers promoted back to 2nd Division!
With a comfortable 5½-2½ home win against visitors Enfield, our 2nd team clinched promotion back to the 2nd Division of the Middlesex League with a couple of matches to spare! With 5½/6 match points, we re-took the lead in the 3rd Division from Harrrow 1, who also recently secured promotion.

18 February 2010: Lions do double over Muswell Hill
After a tough struggle against visitors Muswell Hill, our 1st team finally came out winners with the flattering scoreline of 7-1.

28 January 2010: The 2nd Hendon Chess Club Open Rapid Chess Tournament
On Thursday 11th February we’re holding the Second Hendon Chess Club Open Rapid Chess Tournament.
This is the second in our series of experimental events, which is open to all. It will be run over a total of 4 rounds of 15 minutes per player per game. We will be using Swiss pairings, and a computer.

Home to West London 2 and aided by a couple of defaults, our 2nd team managed to turn around several inferior positions to win the match 5½-2½. We now have 4½ match points from 5 matches, with 3 left to play.

In a match our 1st team had initially expected to win, we were finally relieved to draw 4-4, when Lion cub Isaac Sanders managed to hold an inferior rook ending. Wins were provided by Charlie Storey, Gary Senior and Tim Rogers.

Away against a potentially strong Muswell Hill side, and despite having a couple of regular team members missing, our first team managed to win the match 7½-½. New team members Paul du Buf, Isaac Sanders and Tim Rogers recorded their first wins for the team.

The 1st HCC Open Rapid Tournament was won outright by Hendon’s resident rapidplay expert Cristian Mures, with 5½ points from the 6 rounds. The runners-up were David Iwi and Meri Grigoryan.

Away against a strong Enfield first team, the Hendon Tigers managed to hold a 4-4 draw in Division 3 of the Middlesex League. In a match which went right down to the wire, Salvatore Pepe and new member Tim Rogers provided the wins for Hendon.

New Hendon member Tim Rogers took an early lead with 3/3 on the first evening of the 1st Hendon Chess Club Open Rapid Tournament. The chasing pack includes Cristian Mures, David Iwi, Salvatore Pepe & Graeme Lennard of Hendon, plus Meri Grigoryan of West London, all of whom are on 2½ points.

On Thursdays 12th and 19th November we’re holding the first Hendon Chess Club Open Rapid Chess Tournament.
This is a NEW event, which is open to all. It will be run over two Thursday evenings, with a total of 6 rounds of 20 minutes per player per game. 7.30pm start on each evening, finish before 10pm. All games rated by the ECF.

1 July 2009: Sharks attack!
After the decisive, but less than convincing, victory over Albany last week, our rapidplay team returned to their true form last night with a very comfortable 7½-½ victory over Metropolitan Chess Club, and as a result still top the City of London Rapidplay League.

Fighting draws at the top saw Adam Raoof retain his lead in Round 6 of the club championship yesterday evening. Michael Bennett (pictured, from 1977-78 when he first joined the club) is still in 2nd place, with Tomer Eden, Jonathan Landau, David Iwi, Chris Rogal and Chris Jones only half a point behind and very much in contention. Club member Petr Limonov scored his best result yet at the Amersham Minor over the weekend, winning the U-120 tournament outright with 5½/7.
Tomer Eden also had a good result, winning the 2100+ rating prize in the Open with a TPR of 2246. Tomer was in 4th position going into the last round, before losing to tournament winner GM Simon Williams. The only other game Tomer lost was also to a GM – Mark Hebden!

March’s Hendon Blitz Tournament was won by Hendon’s Cristian Mures with a 100% score, a full 2 points clear of the field. The prize for Hendon’s top player went to Salvatore Pepe.

5 February 2009: Sabin and Mures win the Blitz
February’s Hendon Blitz Tournament was won jointly by Hendon’s top board Cristian Mures and 13-year-old Frank Sabin. Shane McCabe came third and the prize for Hendon’s top player went to Liviu Enciu.
12 players took part.
8 January 2009: Slavin on top in Blitz
January’s Hendon Blitz Tournament was won with a 100% score by Alexey Slavin (2262) from Russia, who came fresh from victory at a Hastings tournament. Hendon’s top player was Martin Walker with 5/6, playing in his last blitz before leaving for South Korea.

4 December 2008: GM Cherniaev visits Blitz
December’s ‘First Thursday’ Hendon Blitz Tournament had the honour of a visit from Russian GM Alexander Cherniaev, who won the tournament with 6/6. Steven Coles from Kings Head took 2nd place, with 4½/6. Hendon’s top player was Cristian Mures, who took a clear 3rd place with 4/6.
