Mini-report by Adam Raoof
Enfield’s line-up looked pretty strong, and some concerns were expressed at the outset as to whether we could get the full point from this fixture. As non-playing captain I looked at all the boards and reckoned we had an advantage on several. Solid draws on a couple of well-matched boards soon followed.
The match was in the balance when Chris Rogal had the win all but written up on the scoresheet. Then he inexplicably blundered a rook, with check, and went down soon after.
Tim Rogers was the new star of the second team – he made his own way to the venue, arrived 15 minutes late, played into an endgame with about five minutes on the clock and squeezed a win out of a complex pawn advantage to draw the match. Go Tiger Tim!
