[Forgive the shameless promotion]

I am fortunate to belong to a most friendly chess club, several members of which are competing in the London Classic this year.  One of the most cheery and positive is postman Kishan Pattni, whose ambition has taken him to the British Rapidplay Minor in Halifax where he won his event with 10/11 despite having a lowly rp grade of 116!  At the Classic he is playing in the very tough FIDE Open tournament.

I find myself playing in the British Championships for the first time! Also with me are Tomer Eden from Hendon Chess Club, and Tryfon Gavriel from Barnet Chess Club.

Normally the period between the end of the chess season and the start of the next is a quiet one, with family summer holidays and the British Championships the only distractions.
