Hendon Chess Club

The club has a lively programme of events, including:

• Annual Club Championship
  The Club Championship is a 7-round Swiss, played from May to July. All members are eligible, and games are graded. It’s a chance to get some practice in a competitive environment and meet your fellow clubmates!
• Middlesex League
  We run four Hendon teams – the Lions (in Division 1), the Tigers & the Jackals (in Division 2) and a 4th team (in Division 3) of this League, playing teams from all over Middlesex and Central London, at home and away. Matches take place from the start of October to May.
  Our club is always looking for new team players! So if you are looking for a chess club and opportunities to practise, look no further!
  NOTE – you can play for two different clubs as long as you play for teams competing in different Leagues, e.g. you could play London League for Cavendish, Middlesex League for Hendon and North Circular League for Enfield!
  We were Middlesex League champions in 2009-2010, and runners-up last season.
• City of London Rapidplay League
  We run a team – the Sharks – in this league, playing teams from all over London at Golden Lane (near the Barbican). Matches take place from June until the start of August. We are the current league champions for 2011, were runners-up last season, and were champions in 2009!
• Blitz Tournaments
  ‘First Thursday’ Hendon Blitz Tournaments are held on the first Thursday of every month (hence the name!).
• Open Rapid Chess Tournaments
  Hendon Open Rapid Tournaments are held occasionally, in order to provide members and visitors with opportunities to play graded games on otherwise idle Thursdays!
• Rapidplay Tournaments
  Our club member Adam Raoof runs monthly Golders Green Rapidplays (30 minutes per player per game) at the club venue with up to 114 taking part! Hendon members get discounted entry and there are over £400 in prizes to win!

Membership Rates for 2011-2012

• Annual subscription: £65.00
• Students, unemployed and juniors: £45.00

There is a £5 discount if you pay your membership fee before 31st October!

Get an Official Grade!

If you join Hendon Chess Club you get the opportunity – through our Championship and League Games – to get an official English Chess Federation grade. For more information visit www.englishchess.org.uk.

Charlie’s

After club nights and matches, at least a few of our members can often be found in the excellent Italian restaurant called Charlie’s on the right hand corner of North End Road and West Heath Drive. Good food, coffee and beer plus very friendly staff!
